City of Everett Budget 2011 Priorities???

Okay everyone, well.. Most everyone has a budget they have to run their lives by. Same with cities, counties, states & our Nation in general. We are reaping the “lack” of benefits when those same don’t live by their budgets. So while the working American citizen is expected to live within their means & to budget their money the Government has no such guidelines or responsibility it would seem.

Thanks to the Everett Herald for alerting me to the fact that the City of Everett budget is finally on line (it only took 11 months). I love accounting for the simple reason is it is the only thing that makes sense, you can play with the numbers but you can not change their reality. The city of Everett has projected revenues of 105,784,941, it has projected spending of 110,573,561, but the revenues have an expected shortfall of 962,110. That NOT included Everett is claiming they are facing a 1 Million dollar shortfall, but the projected budget has them overspending to about the tune of 4,788,620 that is 4.8 million dollars. So where do they think this money is going to come from? If I overspent almost 5.7 million dollars a year there would be hell to pay in my house, my better half is a good kind & understanding man but I’m pretty sure we would have a battle royale over that one.

But first!!! Let’s take a look at the priorities of the Mayor of the City of Everett who is the one who gives final approval after the Council has voted on it.About 47% of the city’s budget is spent on Police & Fire. It is the rest of it that made me go WTH? If you are Senior Citizen in the City of Everett you are worth approximately 1/3 less than an animal, but don’t feel bad the community is only worth 1/5 of what the Animal Shelter is worth, an Animal shelter with it’s very own 501(c)3 non profit with the ability to fundraise & get their own donations, & being in animal rescue I know they could be eligible for well over 750,000 in grants, & scholarships from other charities.

Just take a look at the priorities of the City Govt, now I know what Stonecipher & Nielson were squawking about as far as the budget & spending priorities, you should know too.

77% of the City’s revenue is made up from property owners, business owners & ANY ONE who buys so much as a stick of gum in the city from the sales tax they bring in. Another 16% is also you in nickels & dimes charges, fines, fees, penalties & other assessments. So 93% of the money they are spending, it was yours, it is being wasted & you are continuing to let this happen to you by not getting involved in the whole process.

Every day when you go to work how does it feel to know the people who are taking that money you worked hard for are playing around with it, wasting it like a drunk 21 yr old on their first trip to Vegas with mom & dad’s credit cards.

I will let you take a look for yourself to see what your hard earned money is going towards, think long & hard about how you feel about this when you vote. Further results can be found here at this link at the City Of Everett Website
