The city of Everett has lost one of it’s own, Drew Nielsen of the City Counsel was lost in a rafting accident yesterday. He leaves behind a family & a city to grieve his loss.
Most of you know I had a hard spot for him, but after meeting him & sitting down talking with him, my views changed very quickly, I cant say I agreed with him or his tactics but there was understanding as to why he made some of the decisions he did. Even if you didn’t agree you had to respect that he always stood for what he believed in.
I also had occasion to meet his wife & the love between them too was something to behold… So to his family I offer my most sincere condolences, I don’t have any words of comfort, there really are none. I will keep you all in my prayers.
To the citizens of Everett, you may not even realize what a treasure you lost, I never did get his infatuation with the arts & all the culture he tried to bestow on our city but unless Ms Stonecipher keeps his torch burning things like Children’s Theatre, the Symphony & Cultural arts will be gone, that will be a sad day. EVERETT — City Councilman Drew Nielsen has died in a whitewater rafting accident on the Green River in King County.
Nielsen and his wife, Kim, were rafting near Black Diamond on Saturday afternoon with a group of friends when their raft flipped in a treacherous rapid known as the Nozzle, said Irv Wiswall of McMinnville, Ore., a fellow rafter who witnessed the accident.
Kim Nielsen was able to get out from under the boat and another rafter pulled her to safety.
A search and rescue team later found Nielsen’s body pinned under the boat.
Nielsen, 61, had more than two decades of experience rafting.
He was wearing his life jacket when the accident occurred, Wiswall said. The force of the water was so strong, the jacket was sucked off his body, he said.

Posted by philosophermouseofthehedge | May 14, 2012, 8:42 amUnfortunately he was the ONLY one besides Brenda Stonecipher who was ever willing to stand up for what he believed in, he was usually at the end of the un-popular vote & when he got something in his head, that was it, it was going to happen.
This will bring the corruption to a whole new level in this city,
